STUDYING IN RUSSIA
Russian Federation is rapidly emerging as a destination for foreign students. Education in Russia’s leading universities is both high quality and relatively inexpensive. So studying in Russia is a great opportunity for those who would like to get a good education at an affordable price. Studying in Russia also represents an opportunity to get to know one of the fastest developing countries worldwide – one of the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
As Russia has recently been developing more and more English-language programs at its universities, including Bachelor’s degree and various Master’s degrees, there are more opportunities for non-Russian-speaking students to study in Russia. Universities also offer short-term programs, including summer schools and exchange schemes. Foreign students can attend Russian-language programs as well.
Today Russia ranks eighth in the world in the number of foreign students arriving to study, which means many Russian universities have diverse student communities and well-established support services for international students.
Universities and educational programs
Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) has recently launched three English M.A. programs in Russian Culture and Arts, Politics and Economics in Eurasia and Governance and Global Affairs. Also MGIMO is among the first to be preparing an English-taught B.A. program in Government and International Affairs.
National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) now offers English-taught courses across a broad range of subjects, at both undergraduate and graduate level. However, the majority of courses taught entirely in English, from start to finish, are Master’s programs: Asian and African Studies, Economy, Finance, International Relations, Management, Mathematics, Political Science, Software Engineering.
Education at Peoples' Friendship University of Russia corresponds to all International standards. Multilevel education system «Bachelor — Master — Ph.D» and a credit system of studies allow the PFUR students to obtain European Diploma Supplements in 5 foreign languages and to participate in academic exchanges with other universities around the globe. Master’s Programs in English language are relevant to the European programs. English-taught graduate programs include Medicine and Dentistry (Medical Faculty), undergraduate program – Veterinary (Agricultural Faculty).
The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) is offering two graduate programs taught entirely in English. The first is an international Master’s degree, which includes four management training programs: Global Finance, Project Management, International Business And Change Management. The second is a Master’s degree at the Institute of Business Studies under the President of the Russian Federation (IBDA) – the only program available for training international executives in Russia to receive the prestigious European EPAS accreditation.Plekhanov Russian University Of Economics (PRUE) provides English-taught educational programs offered by two faculties:
- International Business School – Bachelor in Marketing, Finance and Credit; Master in International Corporate Finance;
- Faculty of Business – International Marketing, International Financial Management, European Master in International Management.
St. Petersburg State University is among Russia’s oldest and most prestigious, ranked at 251 in the 2011/12 QS World University Rankings. St. Petersburg State University has its own English-language Master’s degree, with educational programs in Business, Management, Economics, International Relations and Sociology; in 2013 there will also be programs in Journalism, Political Science and Ecology.
St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University offers the following Master’s programs taught in English: Intelligent Systems, Civil Engineering, Energy Technology, International Business Development, Business Development and Innovation in International Context. University also offers Double Degree programs in Informatics and Computer Science (developed with City University of London), International Marketing Management (implemented in cooperation with ESB Business School, Reutlingen (Germany)).
Tomsk State University which is in the top 500 of the 2011/12 QS World University Rankings offers Bachelor programs: Management, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering.
FEFU (Far East Federal University) in Fall 2012 started 10 Master’s degree programs in English: Political Sciences, Management, Design, Engineering, Law, Archeology, Education and Natural Sciences. All the programs have been developed and implemented in collaboration with leading American, Australian, European and Asian universities.
How to enter Russian University? How to Pay?
Foreign students can apply for scholarship of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. It takes more time to obtain it, number of scholarships is limited and applicant should prepare documents in advance (till the end of April), but it gives opportunity to study in Russia free of charge. To apply for Russian governmental scholar ship foreign student should contact the Russian Embassy in Singapore.
Russian universities also have wide range of exchange programs with foreign partners, which allow students to study without any additional payments.
